Paper 217-25 Robust Effect Size Estimates and Meta-Analytic Tests of Homogeneity

چکیده
This paper presents a computer program that calculates two effect size estimates (gamma and trimmed-d) that are robust to violations of the assumptions of population normality and homogeneity of variance. Because of their robustness properties, these indices are frequently more appropriate than the conventional parametric indices such as Cohen’s d or Hedges’ g. Additionally, a program that uses these effect size indices in robust permutation tests for betweenclass homogeneity (a test frequently used in metaanalysis) is introduced. The paper provides a demonstration of the SAS/IML‚ code and examples of the application of the code in simulation studies.

Diagnostic predictors of learning readiness for pre-school children: A meta-analytic review
Background and Objectives: Students with learning difficulties encounter poorer school outcomes and major problems in learning. Researchers investigated the factors in preschool stage that will help to diagnosis learning problems. Methods: A meta-analytic review provides means for assessing which factors show the strongest effects on long-term outcomes. Results: This article presents a ...
متن کاملMETAPERM: A SAS Macro for Permutation Tests of Linear Models in Meta-analysis
With the growing popularity of meta-analytic techniques to analyze and synthesize results across sets of empirical studies, has come concern about the sensitivity of traditional tests in meta-analysis to violations of assumptions. Such violations are particularly distressing because the tenability of such assumptions in primary studies is often impossible to evaluate. Permutation tests for line...

متن کاملComparing χ tables for separability of distribution and effect Meta-tests for comparing homogeneity and goodness of fit contingency test outcomes
This paper 1 describes a series of statistical meta-tests for comparing independent contingency tables for different types of significant difference. Recognising when an experiment obtains a significantly different result and when it does not is frequently overlooked in research publication. Papers are frequently published citing ‘p values’ or test scores suggesting a ‘stronger effect’ substitu...
متن کاملErratum: Robust variance estimation in meta-regression with dependent effect size estimates.
Conventional meta-analytic techniques rely on the assumption that effect size estimates from different studies are independent and have sampling distributions with known conditional variances. The independence assumption is violated when studies produce several estimates based on the same individuals or there are clusters of studies that are not independent (such as those carried out by the sam...
